Catuai is a cross between the high-yielding Mundo Novo and the compact Caturra varieties, developed by the Agronomic Institute of Sao Paulo in Compinas, Brazil (IAC).
The name Catuai is derived from the Guarani word *Multo*, meaning "very good"
